The National Youth Orchestra are looking for talented young players and composers to join.
Any instrumentalists of Grade 8 standard and also any promising composers who are interested in joining can apply online at http://www.nyo.org.uk/. The closing date is Monday 23 July 2012.

Do you play a musical instrument?

You could try for a place in a band, an orchestra, or one or more of a number of specialist smaller groups of musicians run by the Shropshire Music Service.

Who can join?
  • if you are aged under 21, at school in Shropshire, and are of a suitable standard to join one of the County or Area groups then ask your instrumental teacher, vocal or the school music department about which group might be best for you.

What does being a member involve?
  • you will be performing specially chosen music with other players of a similar standard.
  • you will rehearse regularly, at times and dates which depend on the group you are in. The County instrumental groups, for example, rehearse fortnightly during term time, in Shrewsbury. Some of the smaller County groups, and the Area Groups, rehearse weekly.
  • you will take part in at least three concerts a year, in venues in various parts of the County. Senior players may be asked to join with Music Service staff in the Shropshire Sinfonia, one of Shropshire's top orchestras.

Does it cost anything?
  • There is a termly subscription currently £38.00 (County) £22.00 (Area). If you are in a County group the subscription entitles you to be a member of one or more groups.

How do I apply?
  • Head to the music department for an Audition Application Form.
  • Send your application form to the address at the top of the form.
  • You will then be invited to come for an audition during the Summer Term.
